TNC Provides a New Map of Wakanda

The location and maps of Wakanda have been around and been an interesting topic since Jungle Action. McGregor put his map together on the fly and it has been "the" defacto map for awhile.

We have seen a few maps since then. Here are a couple more, that I think came from Hudlin's run but I am not 100% sure.

Coates has teased a Wakanda map before in various articles online as he was talking to actual map makers. He wanted to "update" the problematic McGregor map... move beyond "every location is named after an aminal."

So, despite my issues with TNC as a writer... this map is good. Real good. Well thought out in regards to how Wakanda could possibly stay unconquered for so long.

I mean... that is cool man. The part about the fields (top right corner text) is a bit interesting. We had teases in issues #3 that Wakanda was an, isolated badass Wakanda before the Vibranium meteorite. Where is Coates going with this? Seems like another retcons coming!

Marvel made the right choice... the suit they used in the movie was much, much better. In fact, it was perfection and might be the best comic book suit I have ever seen. 

Still cool concept work though.

[Editors Note: Today is usually when I review books T'challa shows up in and since it was Civil War II #3, I thought he might have a meaningful enough part ot review. He didn't say a word so, emergency back up post activated!

On another note though, while the continued killing off of people is ridiculous, I thought the issue was well done. And dat art.

Marvel has been doing a "History of the Black Panther" series which has been pretty cool. At the very worst, it is an easy way to track down all of T'challa's major appearances across his solos, jungle action, avengers, fantastic four, ect. Check out #7 below.

Black Panther Sales Continue to Impress

June comic book sales are in (HERE) and Black Panther is one of the highest selling comics... again.

Black Panther #3 sold 75,000 units. Which put it:

#27 overall
#9 at Marvel
#4 if you take out Star Wars books at Marvel
#2 if you take out Star Wars and events at Marvel. The only "normal" Marvel book to beat it was Deadpool.

It only dropped a whopping 2K from issues #2!

It got #27 in a month where Rebirth was in full swing, Civil War 2 was in full swing, it beat out Captain America: Steve Rogers #2 (after the Hydra reveal!), Civil War Amazing Spider-Man #1, Civil War X-Men #1...

It beat Amazing Spider-Man books by over 10K.

I mean, holy moly. This is good for Black Panther as a franchise. I do not like TNC run so far. At all. But, he has more eyeballs on Panther... ever. Sales matter a lot. Sales keep you on "the list" of heroes that always get a book, every single year.

Peter Parker, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Deadpool, Captain America, Daredevil, Wolverine

They get books every. single. year. They get spin offs. They show up in team books. They show up in events. They are franchises.

The only fear is that T'challa continues to look like McGregor T'challa, he gets another pitiful, non-victory victory, and this becomes the new "standard" T'challa.

But that is me being negative. Right now, I am just going to be happy that Black Panther is one of the highest selling solo comics at Marvel.

Black Panther Feats Update

One of the reasons I started this blog is because I wanted to chronicle ALL of T'challa's comic book feats. I started the project on another blog, and then thought to myself, "why not have a blog just dedicated to the Black Panther."

It is an exhausting endeavor. There have been a few posts throughout the internet that has various T'challa feats added and some are pretty comprehensive.

There are a few problems with them though:

1) they are on websites/forums where images tend to disappear. Like comicvine or comicbookmovie.

2) there is no context to them. "Black Panther holds the Silver Surfer." Stuff like that... because that is false and stupid. He didn't lol. It is a bit lazy. Sometimes this can make a feat more impressive actually. For instance, in the Fantastic 4 run where T'challa joined, he was able to sneak up on the Wizard. Cool, impressive feat. The scan says something to the effect of, "this house is too advance to not here them coming." Which, ok, cool. Judging from that,Wizard built a house that was pretty advanced. But the house actually belonged to an ancient cosmic being way past "earth science." If you read the few issues before that, it tells you it belongs to A'lars aka Mentor aka Thanos damn dad. Much more impressive in that context.

3) there is no "source" posted ever. So an image gets posted of a feat, but, where did it come from? What comic? What issue? You need to give people a chance to find the feat themselves to verify so it isn't taken out of context.

So, my list hopes to be a bit more comprehensive than others. I am trying to be as thorough as possible, which is making this list take FOREVER. Once I get through the main runs of Panther (I have Hudlin and Liss still to get through...), I then have to fine pseudo runs (like Hickman's TRO, Doom War, Secret Wars) and then I have to go back and find notable guest appearances, and then I cry myself to sleep at night lol.

It is fun and horrible at the same time. For instance, I finally found some of the Jungle Action comics (I believe 6-24) and my god, that hurt to read. I hate it, its awful, it isn't my cup of tea. All for like 6 scans of feats lol.

- All I got this week is a quick, one panel, background shot of the Thanos fight... again in Captain America: Sam Wilson #11. I think they keep using him in these shots because his costume is so easy to draw. ADAPT THE MCU COSTUME PLEASE!
